Is "The Week" (the magazine) worth it?

I'm trying to reduce my doom scrolling but struggle to get stuck in to a good book.

Partly because I typically read what I think I should be reading instead of what I probably should be reading, because I enjoy it, which is often something my wife has on her bedside table.

So, I'm wondering if it's worth trying "The Week" on one of their affordable trials (I've recently seen £6 for 6 weeks, before it skips to £54 every 13 weeks).

Anyone here delved in? Or have any alternatives worth trying?

I tried Private Eye a few years ago but it was far too satirical and I often felt that I needed to be up to date with the news to understand half of it, which kind of defeated the point for me in purchasing it.

It's very good. It's more like a news aggregator -- you get a lot of international news and extracts from other publications. But it's not the best if you want deeper, more original analysis. Maybe try the New Statesman for something along those lines.

I had it for years, it was really good to get a summary of the news after the dust had settled and BBC and sky stopped making the story sensational. I stopped subscribing because I found I didn’t have the time to read it. They do a really podcast for free
